Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 now available to play
So, even though it’s still murky as to when the sci-fi game will actually come out, it’s best for the studio to take its time during the development process in order to ensure Star Citizen is as flawless as it can possibly be. Star Citizen, which continues to raise funds, recently passed the $100 million mark – a feat it managed just days after opening the long-awaited Alpha 2.0 update to backers.
The epic space simulator from Cloud Imperium Games has reached $100 million in crowd funding, thanks to a loyal community that believes in the game.
Taking everything above into consideration, Star Citizen could very well be considered the most ambitious undertaking in video game history. This is the dream game that all of us have wanted to build all our lives. One person made the astute observation that “India’s space agency put an actual satellite into Mars orbit for $74 million, for perspective sake”. That said, there is undoubtedly a lot of pressure on Cloud Imperium Games’ shoulders to deliver a veritable masterpiece of epic proportions. The complete game was originally slated to launch in November 2014, and the developer stopped adding new stretch goals after the project hit $65 million in crowdfunding. And Cloud Imperium Games’ massive budget has allowed them to get big name actors for the campaign – Mark Hamill, Andy Serkis, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, and Mark Strong. Those who want to play the game can do so as part of the game’s alpha version, which is now on version 2.0. If players choose that last options, they can climb aboard alone or with friends and head off to do much, much more.
In this second Alpha, players find themselves aboard a space station orbiting the planet Crusader. There’s also a new “quantum travel” feature that lets you quickly speed across the galaxy.
