Star player Justin Moss no longer on UB basketball team after theft
The MAC player of the year has been dismissed from UB.
The Buffalo men’s basketball team suffered a mass exodus of players after last season.
Moss led the Bulls in both points (17.7) and assists per game (9.3) last season, en route to the program’s first ever NCAA Tournament berth.
The university did not go into detail about the circumstances surrounding Moss’s removal, but he and two other players mentioned in the brief statement released by the school (Mory Diane and Raheem Johnson) were accused of stealing from a dorm room they had access to from on-campus jobs. Moss, Diane and Johnson were hired as summer employees to change out batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
The school confirmed to 7 Eyewitness Sports Anchor Shawn Stepner that Moss is not taking classes nor participating in university activities. “Because of federal privacy laws protecting student records, the university can not comment further on this matter”, Della Contrada said.
According to The Buffalo News, this was Moss’s second offense.
Moss had been suspended and recently lost his appeal. Because Moss had been on probation for a theft earlier during his time at Buffalo, the university acted quickly to kick him out of school. The money was returned to the victims and they agreed not to press charges.
The two other players involved – Raheem Johnson and Mory Diane – have been suspended.
