Star-studded premiere for ‘Star Wars’ in India
‘Star Wars – The Force Awakens, which released worldwide on December 18, is already garnering a lot of attention worldwide and the box office collections are its proof.
Oh but we’re not done yet, this past weekend The Force Awakens posted unbelievable numbers across the world so let’s mention a few of the best, including the United Kingdom ($50.7 million, new record), Germany ($27.2 million, new record), France ($21.4 million, 2nd best ever), Australia ($20.6 million, new record), Russian Federation ($12.4 million, new record) and the best debut of the year in Japan ($10.2 million).
Directed by JJ Abrams, the film launched to an estimated United States dollars 238 million in North America, 14 percent ahead of “Jurassic World”, which debuted at USD 208.8 million this summer.
The latest record that the new Star Wars film can claim is the biggest Christmas Day gross of all time.
It did the same on Tuesday, adding another $37.3 million to its haul to beat the $35 million record previously set by another Marvel picture, 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man. At this pace, the movie will cross the $1 billion mark sometime over Christmas weekend, or in 12 days or less. In 13 days, Jurassic World had made $436 million domestically and became the fastest film to hit $1 billion worldwide.
In addition, Hot Toys has released images of their Star Wars: The Force Awakens 1/6th scale Finn collectible figure as well as the 1/6th scale Finn and First Order Riot Control Stormtrooper collectible set. You know, it was my first movie that I went to see with him. Disney plans four “Star Wars” movies through 2019, plus major expansions at its USA theme parks to incorporate the droids, spaceships and otherworldly creatures of the universe Lucas invented. It did not take the record for the biggest Wednesday but it is getting close to another record.
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at USA and Canadian theatres, according to Rentrak.
