Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin ‘left no will’
On June 19 the “Star Trek Beyond” star died from “blunt traumatic asphyxia” after his own auto rolled down a steep driveway and pinned him between a brick mailbox pillar and security fence.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV issued a recall in April for 1.1 million cars and SUVs worldwide, majority in the United States, because the vehicles could roll away after drivers exit them.
Yelchin’s crash is still being investigated, but his vehicle was on and in neutral when the actor was found in his driveway.
There are close to 700 complaints over the same issue, including more than 260 accidents and 68 of those have involved injuries.
In the case of Yelchin, LeBeau said his parents could make the case that even though he was under the assumption his vehicle was in park, it could have slipped into neutral without him realizing and resulted in his death.
In April, the company recalled 1.1m vehicles worldwide over the risk they could roll away after drivers exit.
Yelchin was due at a rehearsal for another project on June 19 and after failing to arrive, friends went to his home in Studio City, a Los Angeles suburb, to look for him.
Anton Yelchin’s parents, Victor and Irina Yelchin, are planning on filing a wrongful death lawsuit against Fiat Chrysler, the Associated Press reported on Monday, August 1. The auto was under recall for problems with the gear shifter. “We hope this lawsuit will teach them a lesson”, he said.
Aglobal recall of the vehicles was issued earlier this year over the safety concerns.
Fiat Chrysler has said it is speeding its recall of the vehicle.
He drew on his Russian roots for his role as the heavily accented navigator Chekov in the Star Trek films, his most high-profile to date. Over a month has passed since his tragic passing, and with August having just begun, Yeltsin’s parents are taking legal action against Fiat Chrysler, the company which made the vehicle that killed their son. “We were always proud of him being the greatest human being, not a star”, his mother said, calling him a “beautiful human being”.
Fiat Chrysler extended its sympathies to Yelchin’s parents but said it could not comment on the lawsuit because it had not been served with it.
