Star Wars 7 is ‘the best ever’
Honestly, it’s great that we still don’t know a lot about the film – it makes it far more exciting.
Drew Struzan has created posters for every Star Wars movie since the beginning, back in 1977, and he recently unveiled a new one for Star Wars: The Force Awakens that was commissioned as an exclusive for fans attending Disney’s D23 Expo 2015 last week.
Having seen the film I know what it is about. It’s about inheriting and embracing the elements of “Star Wars” that are the tenets of what is so powerful. Abrams who I have never met, and he was in England shooting the film and he goes “Hi, I’ve always loved the work” and Blah, Blah, Blah, sounding like you, you know, like a fanboy (laughs) And we were talking along and he just goes ‘…Well, would you?’ and I said ‘…If I was asked.’ And that was the conversation (laughs). How can I represent this film really well? Not only has he read the script, but he’s seen the movie (okay, half of it).
While I have my own theories about what the poster suggests, the obvious standout is Finn holding a lightsaber, suggesting he might have some connection to the Force. And the new poster for the film is saying a lot. It’s all those things that Star Wars had to be and is still. And I hope to represent that again to a new generation. Not only did she bagged an Oscar for her very first feature film appearance in Steve McQueen’s “12 Years A Slave”, she has also been locked to one of the most popular franchises ever -“Star Wars“.
Read the full interview with Struzan at Movies Weekly. “I had feelings for it and I paint how I feel about it”, he said when asked if seeing The Force Awakens helped with the creative process of the poster.
While the rest of Drew Struzan’s artwork for the film will be released in the coming months, Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens on December 18. However, if Struzan’s this excited after only seeing half the film, that definitely kicks my excitement up a notch in turn.
