‘Star Wars 7’ News: Mark Hamill Thought Luke Skywalker Would Turn Evil
Is J.J. Abrams saving the reveal for a few kind of big twist – like, perhaps, Luke Skywalker having turned to the dark side?
Eleven minutes into season four, episode nine, Smith asks Hamill about a “Star Wars” show the two were rumored to be working on at the time. But it’s certainly an interesting take on the character, and could explain why we’ve yet to actually see Luke Skywalker in any of the film’s promotional material. In a round table discussion with Mark Hamill (Star Wars), Kevin Smith (Clerks), Jason Lee (Mallrats), and Marvel legend Stan Lee back in 2005, it was suggested by the Luke Skywalker actor that he would eventually turn to the dark side.
Other than this mysterious shot of a robotic hand reaching out to R2-D2 – which fans have assumed belongs to Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) – and a leaked photo of Hamill in costume that Disney had removed from numerous sites, we have yet to see the fan favorite in marketing for the new film. Clearly, Hamill would have had no trouble embracing a script with that theme – and we know the man’s got the talent and versatility to play the part differently. As the camera focuses on it, fans knew the villain’s main goal and that’s to continue the works of the Dark side.
Eventually, Hamill suggested to George Lucas that Luke would suffer from the pain of losing most of his family and turn evil. On the other hand, the final trailer, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” shows Kylo is using the Dark Force to Poe Dameron played by Oscar Isaac. “I will finish what you started”. “I just thought that’s the way it was going from when we finished [The Empire Strikes Back] … I’ll have to come back, but it will be Han Solo in my crosshairs and I’ll be about to kill him or about to kill the Princess or about to kill somebody that we care about”. Among his guests were director J.J. Abrams, who had “Mission: Impossible III” in production, and Mark Hamill, observed Vulture. It looks like you’re probably in this upcoming movie.
Instead, that story arc formed the basis for Lucas’s less well-received prequel trilogy, which had recently concluded at the time of the “Dinner for Five” episode, charting the transition of Anakin Skywalker from Jedi apprentice to Luke’s father and nemesis, Darth Vader.
