‘Star Wars’ breaks all-time box office record
If that were the case, The Force Awakens still has plenty of catching up to do to not just Avatar, but a number of other movies, including the would-be leader Gone with the Wind.
That screaming you hear coming from a galaxy far, far away is the Na’vi.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens shattered yet another record on Wednesday when it became the highest grossing domestic film of all-time, Disney said, but it hasn’t broken any overseas records yet.
“Avatar” earned almost $750 million during its original seven-month release in 2009, plus another $10 million or so during a re-release.

Though it seems like “The Force Awakens” still has a long way to go before defeating the global haul of “Avatar” ($2.8 billion), the former can end up eclipsing the latter.
Disney released a statement via StarWars.com, thanking fans for their continued support.
Avatar was able to earn a whopping $2.78 billion in sales which earned it the highest-grossing film of all time, according to Hollywood Reporter.
Globally, “The Force Awakens” has so far made almost $1.58 billion, Disney said, which means it still has some work to do to overtake “Avatar” ($2.79 billion) or another Cameron blockbuster, “Titanic” ($2.19 billion).
As per now, box office observers opine that the reboot may do even better than the six previous films.
Also of note is that for the first time in 40 years, the highest-grossing film of all time in North American is not directed by Cameron, Lucas of Steven Spielberg.
