Star Wars: KOTOR II gets first patch in a decade
Abrams’ Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens is slated to release in theaters on December 18.
With a bunch of fresh features, hopefully the update will help ensure the Obsidian Entertainment-developed RPG will keep on kicking for yet another decade. Additionally, the game now runs on Linux, OS X, and SteamOS; natively supports PC gamepads; includes achievements and cloud save support; and can be viewed in both widescreen modes and resolutions up to 5K. There are some much-needed changes to the game that this update implements, such as being able to use modern controllers to play.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II came out 12 years ago on Xbox and PC, but that doesn’t mean the game can’t be updated all these years later.
Even after the mod’s launch and continued development, neither the game’s publisher Bioware nor the game’s original developer Obsidian bothered officially patching the PC version since April 2005-until Tuesday, that is.
The first official patch for the game in over 10 years adds in Steam Workshop mod support, allowing gamers to easily add fan made content into KOTOR II. Should we all reinstall KotOR 2 on Steam, host a LAN party, and invite everyone we know? Yes. As of writing, Knights of the Old Republic 2 is 25%, which translates to $7.49 on Steam.
But that’s exactly what happened to Knights of the Old Republic II this week, which shipped at the end of 2004 with glaring technical difficulties and missing plot elements that the game’s modding community has since worked hard to address.
