Star Wars: Princess Leia Slave Costume Sells For $96K At Auction
However, that was not the most expensive item sold at the auction.
The gold bikini worn by Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia in “Star Wars Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi” and the flying ship from the first film “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope” was sold at a record sum at the “Star Wars” memorabilia auction.
The bidding started at the already wince-inducing level of $80,000 on October 1. The winning bidder chose to remain anonymous.
Princess Leia, typically seen in robes, was forced into the skimpy outfit by alien gangster Jabba the Hutt after he captured her when she infiltrated his headquarters on the desert planet Tatooine.
While $96,000 is a hefty price tag, the outfit also included the collar, and a number of the links from the chain it was attached to.
The lucky bidder also gets a letter of authenticity from designer Richard Miller, who worked for George Lucas’ Industrial Light and Magic, to prove it is not a fake.
A model of the “Star Wars” blockade runner spaceship has sold for a record $450,000 – nearly double estimates – at a Hollywood memorabilia auction.
There are Star Wars collectibles and then there’s something as holy as the Princess Leia bikini for someone to own.
Fisher will be back as Leia in the seventh installment of the series, “The Force Awakens”, in theaters this December.
