Star Wars role feels ‘very odd’ for star Daisy Ridley
The upcoming The Force Awakens, the first Star Wars film instalment in 10 years, has been kept tightly under wraps bar some broad character outlines. It’s not so much that we feel like the movie doesn’t work if you know what happens, but I do feel like part of the magic of a movie, and certainly Star Wars, is to know as little as possible for as long as possible. The Force Awakens has notched up $50 million in domestic pre-sales, according to U.S. media, breaking the record set by The Hunger Games in 2012.
Still, nothing can compare to the lure of seeing our original heroes back on the big screen after more than 30 years.
“I think the key here is that we are identifying an event or events in Han Solo’s life that gives you some idea of who he is and why he is the character we have all grown to love”, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said in another interview.
But this won’t be the lively Princess Leia fans know from the original trilogy; she is now referred to as “General Organa”, and has become “defeated, exhausted and pi**ed”, described Fisher. But didn’t we just say there was an embargo on reviews and reactions until December 16th?
Loveable sidekicks, like robot C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) and the furry Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew), will also return to the intergalactic battlefield. While chatting with some soldiers deployed in the Middle East, Driver is asked to spill some secrets about The Force Awakens.
For example, he said, the filmmakers created droids “to feel completely new and different and at the same time something that was so of ‘Star Wars.’ That was always the challenge”.
When tickets first went on sale for Star Wars, demand was so high it caused many ticketing sites to crash. And it’s so easy to get wrapped up in it all.
I’ve seen so many people getting themselves psyched up for what they’ve convinced themselves is going to be the ultimate movie-going experience of all time. “I didn’t have any expectations”. He stated that “they would be characters who [fans] may have heard of, but maybe not”.
Avatar was the biggest movie we’ve ever seen, grossing $2.8 billion at the box office worldwide. Let’s hope it’s good though! I’d encourage you to do the same.
