‘Star Wars’ Scores at Box Office, Not on Wall Street
I was 7 years old.
I have one very basic question after seeing any movie: was I entertained? Figuring its scores into the mix, the average Star Wars movie now gets love from just over 80 percent of critics and audience members. Tracking numbers bear this out, putting the movie ahead of all other Christmas openers, with as much as a solid $25 million weekend. I know how painful it can be.
Oscar Isaac had resigned himself to a “cameo” in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” until J.J. Abrams changed his mind.
Whether or not you’re a fan of the series, you’d be hard-pressed to avoid all the merchandising tie-ins surrounding the new movie.
In this illustrated retelling of the first “Star Wars” film, the galaxy is at war. TV shows feel like films nowadays, but stretched out to 4X as long.
Abrams continued to pitch the role though, noting the possibility for an extended life in books, video games, comics and more. It is now running the film festival circuit.
Jefferies analyst John Janedis said Monday that the success of the new “Star Wars’ doesn’t change his core thesis that slowing media-industry growth and rising sports-rights costs at ESPN will limit further upward earnings revisions”. Abrams said that The Force Awakens was meant to be about the evolution of both hero and villain, and that without a bold act, the movie “wouldn’t have any guts at all”. “It’s a trap!” Essentially, it’s a trap for more money. There are numerous books that will help fill the void until “Star Wars: Episode VIII” comes out in 2017. So, if this movie had more character development and story, I probably would have hated it.
“It pays tribute to the original trilogy and opens doors for new fans of the brand”, said Michael C. of Lancaster.
There’s only little background about Kylo Ren being seduced to the Dark Side. Luke disappeared. Han and Leia have a kid who has turned evil. Other than killing off one of the most popular characters in the franchise, what makes this truly ugly is the fact everyone could see this coming.
“Movie theaters have a chance to reintroduce themselves to movie-goers who come for “Star Wars” but may not have come for a few years”, said National Association of Theatre Owners spokesman Patrick Corcoran. There are those that believe there’s a similarity between the music played during a scene from Revenge of the Sith in which Palpatine tells Anakin Skywalker about his decision to murder his Master Darth Plagueis and the “Snoke” track from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
