‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’
Usually, the movie theater itself is a safe space for spoiler discussion after a film – people have just seen the movie, after all – but for The Force Awakens, the employees of local theaters have asked that you keep spoiler discussion of Star Wars to yourself this Thursday and Friday. “I don’t think we really had one”.
Daisy Ridley, who plays new star Rey, revealed that she was “Feeling quite sick, but now it’s kinda cool”. “…It’s insane! What if they don’t like me?!”
They are the original trilogy as many of you many have enjoyed seeing at the theater when it first came out. Imagine they’re like, ‘Boo! I was so busy I was working with adrenaline so I went in and out.
The premiere was also attended by the cast of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” with stars such as Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Max von Sydow Gwendolyn Christie and Harrison Ford – who was accompanied by his wife Calista Flockhart – all in attendance. “Why? Well, you’ll find out in a couple of hours – why ruin it now?” “I’ve gone this long”, he said of the legally-mandated vow of silence.
As for the movie itself? I mean, you know, it’s like going back to your old school, you know, when you were in second grade at college. “The movie’s good.” For the record, after an exhaustive – and exhausting – global promotional tour, Ford admits he was excited – for some rest. “I’ve been in LA for 25 years and reviewing films for 18 years and I’ve never seen a premiere this big”, he said. As a goodwill gesture, a number of fans who have already spent days waiting in line in front of the Chinese Theatre to see the film when it opens were also invited in to the premiere.
As expected, the audience broke into applause at the opening blast of John Williams’ theme music and at each successive appearance of a much-loved “Star Wars” character, from Han Solo to Princess (now General) Leia to Chewbacca to R2-D2. “I couldn’t have done it any better”, another fan told us, adding, “This is awesome”.
“Even by the razzmatazz standards of the Walt Disney Company, the high-security, spare-no-expense world premiere… was something to behold”, the New York Times reported.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits cinema screens on December 17.
