Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Google has just unveiled a new feature that will customize your Google apps and services to your liking.
It’s all part of a Disney/Google promotion, and, if you’re a Google user, it goes quite deep. He then told the audience to prepare for the music from “Star Wars” in a way they never heard before.
Star Wars BB-8 appears in “Stars Wars: Force Awakens”. I was able to ride the retooled Space Mountain, now Hyperspace Mountain, as well as the new Force Awakens sequence that was added to Star Tours.
Gmail – The entire Gmail application will be themed, including a lightsaber loading screen. Or you can exchange the standard yellow pegman in Google Maps with a tiny Imperial Stormtrooper.
Waze – C-3PO will now be your voice guidance for your travels. Google has even implemented a tracking system, showing which side of the Force is more powerful at any given time. ‘My father has it, I have it, my sister has it. You have that power, too’.
You can change your chosen side at any time, for those who wish to switch up their allegiance. Coming soon will be a virtual reality version of the Millennium Falcon within Google Cardboard and there are apparently several easter eggs in various Google products.
Once you’ve had enough, you can head back to google.com/starwars to return your account to normal or the changes will automatically disappear on February 1st next year.
J.J. also noted the script is largely driven by the concept of “the Force”, a ubiquitous metaphysical power Jedi Knights and other warriors tap into to access their supernatural abilities in the fictional Star Wars universe. For example, Google Maps will show iconic Star Wars vehicles marking your location, Gmail gets a Star Wars theme and wallpaper, and if you visit Google Play, you’ll find an updated version of Disney’s Star Wars app.
