‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Aiming at Record Thursday Night Opening

Treasure Valley fans flocked to theaters Thursday, many of them dressed as their favorite characters.
In San Antonio, Texas, several dozen fans stood in line at dawn on Thursday to watch a 16-hour marathon of the first six movies in the “Star Wars” franchise to set the mood for seeing “The Force Awakens” later in the day.
The film is certain to continue breaking records as more box office data from around the world rolls in, as it is easily the most highly anticipated movie of the year.
Regal Entertainment Group, which operates the Edwards Cinemas throughout the Treasure Valley, banned masks and weapon-like props, including light sabers in theaters.
“Kind of scared JJ Abrams is taking over for George Lucas”, said Ric Baum, “But from what I’ve seen on social media, is it’s actually really good”.
“I think they killed Vader off far too early”.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens will clearly surpass the biggest December opening of all time (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey holds the domestic record with $84.6 million).
“Came out the year I was born and probably every year since”, she said.
“This seems like a return to form – especially with the old cast combining with the new cast makes it feel like Star Wars felt like when we were kids”, said movie reviewer Ken Jackman. There are still tickets available for show times throughout opening weekend, though.
