‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Blasts Box Office Record

Disney plans four “Star Wars” movies through 2019, plus major expansions at its USA theme parks to incorporate the droids, spaceships and otherworldly creatures of the universe Lucas invented.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has broken several records, including the biggest Thursday preview gross, biggest Friday and biggest single day gross, the first film to gross $100 million in one day, and biggest December debut, among others, as reported by Comicbook.
Its total was boosted by worldwide sales of $279 million (£187 million), plus the option to see the film in IMAX, 3D and large screen options.
“For “Star Wars” fans and Hollywood, this weekend was like the Super Bowl, the World Series and the Kentucky Derby all rolled into one perfectly realized movie event”, said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Rentrak.
“The Force Awakens” is only the third movie in history to open at over $200 million, besides its immediate rival “Jurassic World” and “The Avengers”.

Roughly 58% of the “Force Awakens” audience was male while 63% of the audience was over the age of 25, according to data shared by the studio. It’s not anything to do with the story; it’s just seeing your character’s name consistently coming up in a script for a film that is Star Wars! South Korea has a film there that is said to be popular and is showing at the same time as “Star Wars”.
The movie has become the biggest opening movie ever in 16 countries and the second biggest opening film in three other countries.
