‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ breaks another box office record!
After watching The Force Awakens, I’m actually excited for future Star Wars movies (something I never thought I’d say), but less excited to revisit this particular Star Wars movie.
And let me declare upfront: I’m a fan. Also if Maz, was a Yoda replacement for this film, it did not work well. There’s a real sense of overcompensation here-it’s telling that while the prequels eschewed any sort of “Han Solo figure” (i.e., a clumsily charming rogue in a cool jacket) and focused nearly exclusively on the monotonous, self-rubbing mysticism of the Jedi Knights, The Force Awakens features at least three different Han Solo figures, including the actual Han Solo (Harrison Ford, giving slightly more of an effort than in Crystal Skull). You need look no further than the ranks of the bad guys to bear this out – in just a few scenes of this movie, stormtroopers are given more of a personality than in the entire original trilogy. There are lightsabers, spaceship dogfights and a certain Wookiee with a temper. Oh, and for the Millennium Falcon of course.
I’m talking about the oversaturation of “Star Wars” branding in the consumer marketplace, most notably cereal boxes, toys and clothes that flood the stores.
As could be expected, Hamill’s fans also adored the move. Sequel trilogy writer and producer Lawrence Kasdan dropped a non-definitive answer. Star Wars tropes now combed over for years by fans since the 1977 release are not just referenced cheekily, they were the basis for everything. Those two characters didn’t seem to have recognized her in The Force Awakens. The one seemingly unambiguous note is that the new-school Luke Skywalker is a young woman, a desert scavenger named Rey (Ridley), who shares Luke’s skill set and love of natural fabrics.
John Boyega as Finn is also a watcher.
Mumbai: After breaking multiple records globally, Hollywood film “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” received good response in India, where it has minted Rs.4.58 crore till now. Among the strongest creations of Team Abrams, Kylo Ren is a kind of baby Darth Vader who throws tantrums in inky-black robes while wearing a leather-and-metal-head appliance that looks like a domination mask by way of the grille of a 1952 Chevy.
Ford himself brings back the iconic smarmy charisma like no time has passed at all, including his timing and chemistry with Peter Mayhew’s Chewbacca, or Carrie Fisher’s Leia. And yet it manages to tell a story of its own, while setting the stage for Episode VIII as well.
Oscar Isaac, who plays Princess Leia’s top Resistance pilot Poe Dameron, is definitely the third new lead. Or #Pinn. Or #FoeDameron.
It’s familiar. The Force Awakens bears a number of similarities to its predecessors, and to A New Hope in particular.
Expect to see Snoke in person in Episode VIII.
A popular theory is circulating the internet right now, and it centers on the mysterious identity of Supreme Leader Snoke in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
But in the end it matters not, this review.
As you can see from the photos in the gallery below, which are taken from the book, concept artist Iain McCaig says that he initially proposed having the Force Ghost of Anakin appear in Episode VII.
Good luck getting a ticket this weekend.
