Star Wars: The Force Awakens DVD Won’t Have An Extended Cut
Star Wars: The Force Awakens scored a record .6m two-day opening in China this weekend, but the blockbuster space opera still looks increasingly unlikely to overtake Avatar’s all-time global box-office record. The ability to surpass Avatar as the all time highest grossing film is still being discussed by some analysts. Despite the economic slowdown there, receipts at China’s box office surged almost 50% previous year, compared with the 7.2% growth seen in North America.
There have been many noticing that Daisy Ridley’s Rey, despite being the main character in
Nomura Holdings estimates “The Force Awakens” will gross as much as 1.5 billion yuan in China, which would fall short of records set previous year.
“Star Wars” earned $42.4 million between Friday and Sunday to push its four-week gross to a staggering $812.7 million, according to Rentrak.
“Star Wars” posted huge opening weekend numbers in China, the world’s second largest film market, where it debuted Saturday.
The current box office total for Star Wars: The Force Awakens? “Quentin Tarantino’s ‘The Hateful Eight” dropped a steep 60% from its wide release bow despite adding 464 theaters.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens just barely managed to edge out its biggest competition this weekend: Golden Globes juggernaut The Revenant, which made its nationwide debut this weekend to the tune of $38 million. However, the well-regarded frontier epic has a price tag of $135 million, meaning it has a lot of ground to cover to make back its costs.
And finally, “Daddy’s Home” brought in an estimated $15 million, showing goofy comedies can have staying power, too.
Fifth on the list was “Sisters”, with Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, at US$7.2 million its fourth week out.
A couple of Fox films took the next two spots with Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip bringing in an estimated $5.5M lifting its total to $75M and awards-hopeful Joy taking in an estimated $4.5M bringing its cume up to $46M.
