Star Wars the Force Awakens is finished!
Google is really going all in here, with a promise for more goodies to follow, but it’s awesome to see everything you use in the world of Google, getting themed.
Amongst the customisations, Google will populate your calendar with Star Wars-related events and the small StreetView “Pegman” in Google Maps transforms into either a First Order Stormtrooper or Resistance Pilot.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is released in the United Kingdom on 17 December.
We are a less than a month away from the release of The Force Awakens, and Saturday Night Live brought back their Star Wars auditions for the occasion.
Jon Hamm can also be spotted in costume as Han Solo, trying to get the iconic character renamed – whilst Michael Buble appears alongside actual Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley and sings his audition. While many will be debating which side of the Force they will choose, we’re more curious to find out how much money Google is making with this little stunt. These include Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, Chrome, and more. The tech titan also is now even encouraging you to choose evil, if your inner Sith so moves you. Or will you channel fear and hate and join the Dark Side?
“We reached out to our friends at Lucasfilm and Disney, and since then we’ve been working together on building google.com/starwars”. However, Google says this isn’t the end of its Star Wars tributes, and promises that there’s more to come, including “the Millennium Falcon in all its (virtual reality) glory”.
In a post announcing the promo on the company’s blog, VP of Product Management Clay Bavor said there are lots of Star Wars fans like him in the Google galaxy. In the meantime, drop us a line and let us know which side of the Force you’ve chosen. It says that some services may take a few hours to change after a user has chosen or switched side.
