‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ sets pre-sales records
From the White House to Facebook, the Star Wars craze is cutting a wide swath as the long-awaited sequel “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” opened in theaters across the globe. Action News was told by some moviegoers that fans that attempted to watch the film at United Artist Broadway Faire 10, in Northwest Fresno, were turned away when technical issues prevented the movie from being shown. “If Han Solo dies I’ll cry”.
The force led Megan Thompson and Anthony Nygren to their destiny, as they said “I do”, or rather, “as you wish”. Fans are expecting to see new characters, villains and plot twists that helped make the franchise a hit.
Taylor Theater owner Bob Krochmal agreed that it’s been hard for “Star Wars” fans to avoid learning details about the new film since it’s been so heavily publicized.
Kelly Andrews, who wears her love of “Star Wars” on her skin in the form of Yoda and R2-D2 tattoos, bought tickets in October for the first showing at Hollywood’s classic TCL Chinese Theatre, where the original “Star Wars” premiered in 1977.
Get ready for an influx of Star Wars box office reports, because Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been breaking records since pre-sale tickets went online, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down. The last “Star Wars” film, 2005’s “Revenge of the Sith”, collected just $9 million in China.
But movie studio Walt Disney Co says millions of tickets are still available this weekend as theatres add capacity to meet demand.
