Stars react to Golden Globe nominations
Filled with cheeky inserts and propelled by whiz-bang edits, “The Big Short” possesses the kind of strutting, frenetic energy of the cynical business culture it depicts.
Vikander, whose film A Royal Affair was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2013 ceremony, told Entertainment Weekly she was stunned to hear she’d been nominated for not one, but two awards. However, star Jon Hamm did pick up his sixth Globe nomination for playing Don Draper. I am incredibly grateful for their nomination, as well as the recognition they have given to this film and to Alejandro’s vision as its director.

SNUB: Tom Hanks, “Bridge of Spies” After losing out on a SAG and Globe nomination, Hanks will probably be sidelined at the Oscars as well.

Spielberg wasn’t the only big-name director left off the Globes’ list. It is also the first nomination for Sarah Hay, who stars as Claire Robbins in “Flesh and Bone” and is a soloist dancer now for Semperoper Ballett in Dresden, Germany after dancing professionally in the USA for four years and training at the School of American Ballet and the American Ballet Theatre.
While Mark Ruffalo is in the Golden Globe mix for Best Actor Musical/Comedy he has not been recognised for his performance in Spotlight… instead it is his turn in Infinitely Polar Bear for which he has picked up the nod.
In an awards season that has so far failed to produce a definite heavyweight, Tom McCarthy’s acclaimed Boston Globe drama “Spotlight” came into the Globe nominations as the Oscar favorite.
But if Oscar forecasters are looking to sift through Globe tea leaves, there appear to be few sure things.
Financial crisis film “The Big Short”, revenge thriller “The Revenant” and biopic “Steve Jobs” followed close behind with four nominations each for the Globes, which will be handed out in Beverly Hills on January 10.
The Screen Actors Guild announced its nominations on Wednesday.
Other digital broadcasters also did well, with Amazon earning five nominations and Hulu nabbing its first.
The nominees for best motion picture drama are Spotlight, The Revenant, Carol, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Room.
The nominees for best motion picture musical or comedy: “The Big Short, ” “Joy, ” “Cinderella, ” “The Martian, ” “Spy, ” and “Trainwreck”.
Besides the “Carol” stars, the other actresses in this category are Saoirse Ronan for “Brooklyn”, Alicia Vikander for “The Danish Girl” and Brie Larson for “Room”. Christian Bale and Steve Carell each received nominations for Best Actor for the film. Idris Elba also spanned both film and TV with nods for his West African rebel commander in “Beasts of No Nation”, as well as the British crime series “Luther”.
