Stastny, Steen help Blues beat Oilers 4-2
The last time the Blues lost to this Oilers came back in March of 2013. In that span, the Blues outscored the Oilers 34-13.
Their only loss comes from the road trip to Minnesota.
“We like playing here, we like playing in Western Canada…”
“Did the power play kill us again?” They battled, the puck popped loose, and an alert Jay Bouwmeester pushed it back to Tarasenko, who was at the top of the circle.
That said, McLellan knows the score.
“I like the fact that we’ve gotten down in games and not really (over) reacted to it, just sort of stayed the course”, Steen said.
The Blues have now played four games in 2015-16 and trailed 1-0 in each.
The Oilers went 0-for-five with the man advantage.
Rexall Place hosted its last home opener, before the Oilers’ new barn opens next season.
The Blues put the game away with two minutes left though as Steen blasted a one-timer past Talbot for his second of the season.
Steen said his team pays no attention to its winning streak against the Oilers.
“You’ve got to find ways to win”, Tavares said. “You don’t want to be down 0-4 to start the year…probably the worst case scenario when you look at it mid-summer”, said Hall.
“It was our best game of the year by a mile”, Predators coach Peter Laviolette said. “Until we can just flow and understand concepts, it’ll take a little while”. “Tonight was no different”.
Right winger Teddy Purcell dumped the puck into the Blues zone, and it took a wild bounce off the end boards, coming back right in front of the Blues’ net.
It was Koprikoski that opened the scoring at 1:36 of the first, driving to the net to convert a Blues turnover past Brian Elliott (24 saves).
However, St. Louis bounced back a minute-and-a-half later as a Troy Brouwer shot caromed off the post to Lehtera, who beat Edmonton goalie Cam Talbot. The team had a new look, too, with phenom Connor McDavid hitting home ice for the first time in the regular season.
NOTES: The Oilers debuted their new orange third jerseys, a throwback to their WHA roots…. Thanks everyone for reading, I hope you enjoy the last home opener in Rexall history. He injured his shoulder in a September 29 pre-season game against Arizona….
The Blues had built a 3-1 lead on a power-play goal by Paul Stastny with 15 minutes, 40 seconds left in regulation, but Edmonton trimmed its deficit to 3-2 with a goal from Taylor Hall with 13:23 to play. Also absent for the Blues was defenceman Kevin Shattenkirk (lower body). The Oilers scratched D Brandon Davidson, D Andrew Ference and LW Rob Klinkhammer….
