State Department short of target on Clinton email release
The U.S. State Department released almost 5,500 pages of former Secretary Hillary Clinton’s private email at 4 p.m., the second to last installment of the court-mandated rollout. The photo spurned countless memes and a popular Tumblr called “Texts from Hillary Clinton”.
None of Clinton’s emails was marked as classified during her tenure, State Department officials say, but intelligence officials say some material was clearly classified at the time.
The newly released emails reveal Clinton and one of her closest aides, Jake Sullivan, had an exchange in September 2010 that showed considerable confusion over her email practices. That’s to be expected given what’s being made public is what Clinton turned over to State.
CNN reported earlier this week that Clinton raised at least $21 million at fundraisers she personally headlined in the fourth quarter of 2015, a number that nearly guaranteed she would break the $100 million goal.
Another email highlighted by Politico suggests that liberal billionaire George Soros regretting backing Obama over Clinton in 2008. The fundraising for the DNC and state parties is aimed at helping Clinton in the general election should she win her party’s nomination.
Buried in Clinton’s emails are notes from many notable names, including Kissinger – who served as secretary of state under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford.
Clinton replied: “I can’t tell yet whether Rahm will actually decide to run”.
Portions of 275 documents in the batch were upgraded to classified, though they were not classified at the time they were sent to Clinton’s personal email, according to the State Department. But Clinton attorney David Kendall said that Clinton could not access the missing documents.
Sanders, who has rejected the support of a “super PAC”, amassed an army of small-dollar donations in raising about $26.2 million in the previous quarter, when Clinton raised $29.9 million.
Clinton has faced scrutiny for using the private server and email account while at the helm of the agency. Republicans continue to attack her as more messages become retroactively classified. “With an expanded FBI investigation underway and new details emerging about the conflicts of interest her server was created to hide, Hillary Clinton has shown she lacks the character and judgement to be president during this critical time for our country”.
