State Department to turn over recovered emails from Clinton’s private server
Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has managed to avoid prosecution thus far as it relates to her email scandal … and it’s unlikely that an investigation into alleged corruption at her pay-to-play foundation will produce anything of outcome prior to the November presidential election. FBI Director James Comey noted that Clinton has been extremely reckless in managing highly sensitive government information and has shared through the unprotected server tens of classified emails.
“But the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in a letter sent to the committee to accompany its investigative documents on Tuesday, said the fact that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had uncovered three instances where Clinton received e-mails containing “(C)” markings for classified was “not clear evidence of knowledge or intent” to mishandle classified information.
But during July 7 in testimony before the Oversight Committee, Comey defended his decision not to bring charges against the Democratic nominee before incredulous Republican lawmakers.
Congressional staffers were poring over the papers Tuesday but it was unclear whether the documents would be made public.
The GOP-led committees have not provided details about the full contents of the FBI’s submission to Congress.
The FBI’s investigation in Clinton’s private email server was concluded over a month ago.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation closed its yearlong probe last month into whether Clinton and her aides mishandled sensitive information that flowed through the private email server located in the basement of her NY home. The Justice Department sent the congressmen a response to that letter last week, saying the information was being reviewed and that the department will “take appropriate action as necessary”.
The Clinton campaign criticised the delivery of the documents.
“They may be willing to risk appearing completely unreasonable, if that helps distract people from the next utterly insane or un-American thing that Donald Trump says”, Cartwright said.
After the FBI closed its investigation without finding evidence of criminal wrongdoing by the Democratic presidential nominee, the State Department asked for copies of the recovered emails.
“With the exception of the classified emails that had been found on the private server, I can see little legitimate objective to which Congress will put these materials”, Schiff said. “We have not received those summaries yet”.
“Although the charity founded by former President Bill Clinton has done admirable work over the last 15 years, the Clinton Foundation is also now clearly a liability for Hillary Clinton as she seeks the presidency in 2016”, the editorial board argued Tuesday. Clinton had said those were all of her work-related messages.
Further controversy, however, was sparked when Clinton said Comey testified she spoke truthfully in public about the private server. The FBI director also said that Clinton had not lied in her interview with the FBI.
Clinton was able to avoid accountability in the aftermath of the Benghazi scandal, although the truthfulness of her testimony is now very much in doubt.
