State Police sergeant who shot himself in leg identified
A Massachusetts state police sergeant who accidentally shot himself in the leg with a shotgun is expected to survive.
“Colonel Richard McKeon and the Department are thankful that the sergeant’s injuries were not more serious”, State Police spokesman Dave Procopio said in a statement. Several of those projectiles struck the officer in one of his legs.
Nasuti was moving a department-issued shotgun when the weapon accidentally discharged, police said.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that the incident was an accidental discharge of a department weapon, with no one other than the injured sergeant involved”, a news release said.
He was taken by medical helicopter to UMass Medical Center in Worcester where he is undergoing treatment.
The trooper is based out of the South Boston barracks. Troopers who carry them must have the approval of the command staff.
The Emergency Vehicle Operations Center is located at the former Moore Army Air Field.
