Statement by an NFL Spokesperson on Oday Aboushi
On Thursday, the NFL announced that guard Oday Aboushi will be suspended for the first game of the 2015 regular season after violating the league’s Substance of Abuse policy, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. “This is something I’ve learned from and I’m focused on moving forward”, Aboushi said in a statement.
The 24-year-old Aboushi was a fifth-round pick by the Jets in 2013.
He will miss the Jets’ first game of the season against the Cleveland Browns. Bowles has already shown that he has very little patience for players who hurt the team, immediately cutting IK after punching Geno and relegating Sheldon Richardson to just a handful of second team snaps in the first preseason game. “Oday accepted responsibility for the traffic infraction and all other charges were dismissed”. In addition to being charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, Aboushi also was issued summons for driving while suspended, careless driving and possession of a controlled unsafe substance in a motor vehicle, the release said. Clearly the culture needs to be changed, and you can bet Bowles and general manager Mike Maccagnan will attack the problem next offseason by continuing their roster makeover. The Jets chose to shore the position up in free agency, signing James Carpenter away from the Seattle Seahawks.
He has took some reps at right guard behind Willie Colon, the incumbent who looks to have already won a starting job. “I’ve always been told that versatility is always better”. The former defensive rookie of the year in 2013 and 2014 Pro Bowler is also expected to be penalized further by the NFL following his July 14 arrest in Missouri after a high-speed chase from police.
“I haven’t been told anything”, Aboushi said.
