Steelers-Bengals clash results in $83665 in fines
Pittsburgh Steelers All-Pro wide receiver Antonio Brown was ruled out for Sunday’s divisional playoff game at Denver because of a head injury.
History can point to the present, and we take a look at some history of both the Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers as they prepare to play in the AFC Divisional round of the playoffs.
Brown suffered a concussion during last week’s Wild Card win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Brown’s absence is a blow for the Steelers, after the 27-year-old finished the regular season as the league’s leading receiver with 136 receptions and 1,834 yards.
Brown had 16 catches for 189 yards – by far the most Denver allowed to any individual this season – in a December 20 Steelers victory at Heinz Field. While Roethlisberger will be without his top two running backs in Le’Veon Bell and DeAngelo Williams (ruled out Friday) as well as top receiver Antonio Brown, who was also ruled out Friday, Manning has a full arsenal at his disposal.
Jones was fined $28,940 after drawing an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for physical contact with a game official when he raged against Steelers assistant Joey Porter, who had ventured onto the field among Bengals players. “It’s just a matter of putting it together this game”. “We’ll do what’s right when it’s said and done.” said Mike Tomlin after the game on Saturday. “We don’t want him to be messed up”.
Bryant had 10 receptions for 87 yards in that game, while Wheaton recorded six catches for 62 yards to help Roethlisberger become the only quarterback this season to throw for 300 or more yards against Denver.
Pittsburgh Steelers fans cheer their team and wave Terrible Towels as they attend a pep rally at Market Square in downtown Pittsburgh, Friday, Jan. 15, 2016.
The NFL fined four players and two coaches a total of $83,665 for their actions in the Pittsburgh-Cincinnati wild-card game.
One Pittsburgh hasn’t had to face since a sprained ankle forced Brown to skip three games in 2012. “But we’ve been stepping up all year; we’ve been coming to work every day ready to work, so for us to think any different I think is insane”.
While he is listed as questionable, there is a chance that decision could change after the Steelers evaluate him on Saturday. While Steelers fans hoped that Williams would be able to return for Sunday’s game, NFL.com reports that he is not expected to play because of his foot injury.
Domata Peko is guilty of running onto the field and pushing a Steelers player after Geno Atkins had sacked Ben Roethlisberger. His 11 rushing touchdowns are the most since 2008, and 907 rushing yards are the most since 2009.
