Steelers’ Brown says he wants new deal, won’t hold out
Unlike Houston Texans star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who held out of training camp for about a day due to his contract issues, Brown has chose to show up and work. He’s scheduled to make $6.25 million this season in base salary and $8.71 million next season. Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown is reportedly growing tired with his current deal and is showing interest in reworking his agreement with the club.
Wide receiver Antonio Brown chatted after practice on Sunday, and of course he dropped his trademark line when he said the first day of practice in pads was, ‘boomin’. Every year you have to try to out-do yourself, because you only get better or worse. If a guy over-performs, take care of him.
Brown said his agent Drew Rosenhaus is in talks with the team and he hopes an agreement can be reached.
I’d be really surprised if a deal for the kind of money Brown is seeking gets done until after this season.
At least a player-friendly restructure gives Brown a little more momentum as he enters another big year and an even sweeter payoff.
Brown has certainly performed, reeling in franchise records in both receptions (136) and receiving yards (1,834) last season to go along with 10 touchdowns.
“I got a good reputation toward [the Rooneys] who have been taking care of me”, Brown said.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are back at training camp for another practice leading to the 2016 season. “It gets you ready for the season”. “It’s great coming out here to see all the fans”, Brown said.
Brown is signed through 2017, and sources said there have been no conversations with the team to this point.
“The Rooney family has been first class with me since I was 21 or 22 years old”.
