Steelers punish Browns 24-9, end 4-game skid
Tom Brady threw for 280 yards and four touchdowns and the New England Patriots beat San Francisco 30-17 on Sunday in Brady’s first road game against the 49ers team he rooted for as a boy.
Yes, the buzz on Twitter after this game is that the Browns only handed off to the running backs ten times. Griffin has been cleared to practice, but he hasn’t been cleared to play.
It’s a tale that Browns fans have come to know far too well – and one that head coach Hue Jackson has quickly learned.
“Everybody just did their job, that really allowed us to play the way we played”, Shazier said.
McCown took over for Kessler in the game with the Steelers and lost the ball on a strip sack. Naturally on the next drive, Duke Johnson fumbles, and as he is holding the ball aloft to show he recovered it, officials give the ball to the Redskins. McCown turned the ball over three times in five possessions against the Ravens on November 10.
What was once a promising young squad led by the energetic Hue Jackson, has devolved into a band of misfits who appear to have quit on the season, and are going thru the motions. We were like, ‘OK, we need to find a way to win a football game so we don’t go 0-16.’ To Rod’s testament, he stood by that.
The Steelers may have caught a break with Luck unlikely to play while going through the league’s concussion protocol.
Stephon Tuitt had a highlight reel hit on Josh McCown and largely lived in the Cleveland backfield on the day, recording 2.5 sacks, while Daniel McCullers had a really nice play along the goal line, snuffing out a Isaiah Crowell run.
Harrison has been one of my all-time favorite players since I became a Steelers fan. “We are going to fix this”. Granted, it was against Cleveland, but the Steelers got back on the right track Sunday by limiting the Browns to 33 yards on 13 carries. They are busting their tails.
As you read this, getting ready to eat or already digesting your turkey, think about the times you’ve had to travel long distances for this particular holiday. A few things we won’t tolerate: personal attacks, obscenity, vulgarity, profanity (including expletives and letters followed by dashes), commercial promotion, impersonations, incoherence, proselytizing and SHOUTING.
Prior to the win over the Browns, the Steelers had just 13 sacks on the entire season.
Steelers veteran outside linebacker James Harrison may have only recorded one of Pittsburgh’s impressive eight sacks against the Browns at FirstEnergy Stadium on Sunday, but in doing so, he made franchise history. “It’s as simple as that”, Pryor said in the locker room after the game, via cleveland.com.
The Browns didn’t cause a turnover, didn’t record a sack and struggled to get off the field on third down. “Whoever’s given up their blocks, they need to stop it”.
“I understand it is coming from a good place. We haven’t been on the same page enough”. Shelton, Kirksey and Jamie Collins most notably. He didn’t throw a touchdown pass for only the second time this season, but he didn’t throw an interception either and got the Steelers out to a lead they never relinquished. Counting on his ability to run away from the hits that Kessler and McCown can’t avoid doesn’t seem like the safest roll of the dice. The problem this season has been the lack of protection.
FRONT FORCE: The Steelers got back to basics – running the ball, stopping the run – to end a four-game losing streak.
Many will second guess Mike Tomlin’s decision to go for it on third and goal with 5-seconds left, but thanks to a Browns penalty they got a second shot at it. The Browns have nearly zero chance of winning if their running backs gain only 20 yards.
