Steelers RB out Saturday vs Bengals in Wild Card Round
The Pittsburgh Steelers will face the Cincinnati Bengals without DeAngelo Williams. Rapoport did point out, however, the Steelers are hopeful Williams would be able to return for the divisional round, should Pittsburgh advance with a win over the Bengals.
That means the Steelers have a big question mark at running back.
Down the stretch there were few teams better than the Pittsburgh Steelers as they made their march towards a playoff spot.
Unfortunately, though, while the Steelers did earn that playoff spot, they’ll have to start their Super Bowl journey without the services of Williams in the backfield.
Williams has been the team’s No. 1 back for most of the season due to injuries and a two-game suspension that Le’Veon Bell went through to start the year.
But getting to Denver will be harder with Williams on the sideline. Todman joined the Steelers in September, but was passed by Toussaint on the depth chart late in the season.
Fitzgerald Toussaint and Jordan Todman will likely share the load at running back with DeAngelo Williams slowed by a right foot injury.
“We had a guy that hadn’t been here and didn’t understand protection”, offensive coordinator Todd Haley said.
It will be the first time in his five-year career that Dalton, 28, has been ruled out of a wild card game, even though head coach Marvin Lewis had hinted earlier this week the quarterback could still play a backup role. “I feel confident going into every game as long as I have a good preparation week”. He rushed for 907 yards and 11 touchdowns while adding an additional dimension with 313 receiving yards on 33 catches.
