Steelers Report Card: Grading Steelers Week 13 win vs. Colts
Williams had a long run of 21 yards and averaged 5.2 yards per carry.
If not for knee and foot injuries that forced quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to miss four games and parts of two more this season, he might be in serious consideration for the NFL MVP award.
There were a lot of things to like about the Steelers offense this week. Instead of easing itself into the flow of a game expected to begin with Ben Roethlisberger and the offense going to work, the defense was thrown onto the field with only 33 feet between it and a 7-0 deficit. This is a great style of play to have, but the Colts have made mistakes against every solid playoff team this season. We could not stay on the field.
But the star receiver wasn’t ready to stop when he reached the end zone. “Things just seem to be working”.
“Martavis Bryant owned Greg Toler last night”. They lost to Baltimore in overtime at home and at Kansas City with Roethlisberger out. Hasselbeck has been under center for four of the team’s six wins this season. While Markus Wheaton had nine catches for 201 yards and a TD last week, Antonio Brown has 33 receptions in the last three games. He remains on target to break his record of 1,698 yards set in 2014.
Antonio Brown keeps proving week after week that he is one of the best receivers in the NFL.
CARDINALS 27, RAMS 3: In St. Louis, running backs David Johnson and Kerwynn Williams scored a touchdown apiece to lead Arizona. It has been 52 consecutive games since Indianapolis has had a 100-yard rusher so there really wasn’t much to worry about there. The Colts have always had issues, and against a team like the Steelers they were put on full display.
Brown also returned a punt 71 yards for a touchdown after he replaced Jacoby Jones, who fumbled twice in the first half, on special teams.
Pittsburgh responded with a 80-yard drive, capped by a 7-yard touchdown pass from Roethlisberger to Brown and a two-point conversion to take a 14-10 lead. “We have to go out there and take care of business”. It’s good for us. Now, I get going for it there, I do. Harrison’s 74.5 career sacks are second-most in team history behind Jason Gildon’s 77. He had been tied with Jason Gildon. But since I always give MVP to a Colt player (since this is…you know…a Colts blog), we’ll give it to Gore. “It was ridiculous. He just became the sack leader in one quarter”.
“We never are surprised when he has games like that because he’s been dong that his whole career”, linebacker Arthur Moats said. Hasselbeck, the league’s oldest quarterback, underwent X-rays after the game and admitted to being in “a little bit of pain”.
Remember Tomlin’s “unleash hell in December” promise? But certainly what came next was a critical point in last night’s game, one in which the team ending up on the winning side of 45-10 turned out to be the Steelers.
