Steelers Rookie Corner Golson Has Shoulder Surgery
Golson could wind up missing his entire rookie season depending on the severity of the tear.
As the end of training camp nears, offensive tackle Kelvin Beachum said he’s looking forward to moving out of the dorm room and returning to his home.
“For me, it’s been a dream come true”, Finney said. Golson, a rookie cornerback, had been on the Physically Unable to Perform list since arriving at training camp.
“We’ve known that surgery was probably necessary from the time that we got here”, Tomlin said. We thought it could be a great experience for him whether he was participating or not. “That’s why we waited for the surgery”.
At this point, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Ed Bouchette sees Wild as a practice-squad player, noting that there are “so many in front of him”, on the depth chart.
Golson was drafted in the second round out of Mississippi this year after leading the Southeastern Conference in interceptions in 2014. Pittsburgh took Golson with the 56th overall pick in the draft following the retirement of veteran Ike Taylor.
Golson was in team meetings though, Tomlin said. “Being a young guy and being in this environment, we thought that there was a lot that could be gleaned from that”. Hindsight is always 20-20. But because the Steelers have gotten thinner due to injury at the inside linebacker position, and because Wild is such a physical player, he has been transitioned to linebacker in the final week of training camp. Tomlin said. “But I would imagine not many share my perspective”. “I’m being (used) at both now, so we’ll see what happens”.
The Steelers host Green Bay in a preseason game on Sunday. Also out are linebacker Vince Williams, running back Josh Harris and wide receivers David Nelson and C.J. Goodwin.
