Stein To Return To North Dakota For Protest-Related Charges
Authorities issued arrest warrants. Residents say the $3.7 billion project will contaminate their water and land. He said that around 25 law enforcement officials arrived to the protest site and found people on horses, wearing masks and goggles and carrying hatchets.
Stein and Baraka joined the protests this week.
The construction of the North Dakota-based pipeline has become a popular protest target among environmental protesters who believe that the pipeline is encroaching on sacred Native America burial sites and is not environmentally safe.
The Morton County Sheriff’s Department is actively investigating all unlawful acts associated with the protests.
The Green Party candidates are standing by their protest.
A news conference is scheduled for 11:00 Thursday morning in Mandan to address “public safety measures in response to the Dakota Access Pipeline protest”.
Green Party beacon Dr. Jill Stein will appear at Rutgers University next Saturday for a campaign rally open to students, members of the University community, and the general public.
The Green Party released a statement noting that pipeline management “unleashed vicious attack dogs on the peaceful protestors and sprayed pepper spray into protesters’ faces”.
“The pipeline will carry up to 570,000 barrels of highly polluting Bakken crude oil per day. It can not be allowed to go forward”.
Stein’s college tour is being used as a showcase for her proposal to make college tuition free for all students and for loan forgiveness for young people already burdened with student debt. “We approve of their vision and courage”. On 6 September 2016, a federal judge sided with the Sioux, at least preliminarily, and granted their emergency request to halt construction on a segment of the pipeline in North Dakota.
Stein has not yet surrendered to authorities.
Stein received about 0.36 percent of the national vote during her presidential run in 2012.
The warrant, as well as misdemeanor charges for criminal trespass and criminal mischief, were filed Wednesday in Morton County.
