Steph Curry passes his dad on all-time National Basketball Association list
It wasn’t particularly pretty and cleared by only the thinnest of margins, but it still counts – and sends a statement. And like the rest of this team, that a few assumed had reached its peak last season, they’re finding ways to become even better.
So, how about if he’s on a record pace for 3s by season’s end? Luke Walton’s interim coaching record remained ideal at 11-0 as well.
“20 point win or bust!”
“We’ve got a bunch of smart players on our team”, Iguodala said. All that said, this was cutting it a little too close.
All of the above made pertinent contributions Saturday night, only to have Andrew Bogut coming off the bench and out of the hazy past to remind everyone of his relevance in exterminating the stunningly recalcitrant Brooklyn Nets.
The Nets still had one final fruitless gasp after Jack’s jumper from the left corner rimmed out with 1.3 seconds left in regulation. With 333 points, he’s scored the most in that span of any player since Michael Jordan’s 338 to begin the 1992-93 season. But faced with soliddefensive pressure most of the night, Curry’s efficiency fell (13-31 from the field, 5-16 from behind the arc). But the Nets failed to get the ball across midcourt in eight seconds, turning the ball back over to the Warriors with still 15.3 seconds to go.
As with all elite players, a Curry “off” night usually still yields what would be considered outstanding production.
Golden State Warriors’ Festus Ezeli, right, blocks the shot of Detroit Pistons’ Kentavious Caldwell-Pope during the first half of an NBA basketball game Monday, November 9, 2015, in Oakland, Calif.
The game was the third for the Warriors in four days, but on the heels of an open date, Walton said, “I expect us to come out with a lot of energy”. Klay Thompson hit his final 2 shots. Dell’s career-high for threes in a game was seven; Stephen has already hit that mark 24 times in his career. Let this clip be a reminder, you just never know what future superstars you may be watching.
As either a pick-and-pop stretch-4 or a playmaker attacking the basket out of the ensuing 4-on-3 advantage, Green has made defenses pay no matter how they play the pick-and-roll. He didn’t like that very much, but he played like Draymond defensively in the second half. Bogut’srim protection was crucial in generating stops, and his board work equally important in denying second chances after the Nets were forced into tough shots.
Leandro Barbosa also missed his second straight game and was not with the team. The unifying element was Green’s vision and intuitive sense of where his teammates would be. He finished with 28 points and nine assists in 44 minutes. Curry missed 11 of his 16 three-point attempts.
Jack Winter and Spencer Lund of DIME had more to say about Green’s role as Curry-release-valve in an extended analysis of Green’s 4-on-3 playmaking, breaking down what Green is doing so well when teams try to blitz/trap Curry to get it out of his hands.
The past 11 games between the Nets and Warriors have been decided by single digits. They’ve yet to measure up against the Spurs or the Thunder. It’s not just that the Nets looked completely out of place being on the same court as the Warriors – a feeling I remember well when the Warriors would face a top team on national TV during The Dark Ages – but that they seem to have no plan, no direction, and no real hope for the future. The Warriors so far have shown a good sense of situational awareness – knowing when to flip the switch on their best play – but they’re increasingly leaving no margin for error.
