Stephen Colbert and Oprah share Bible verses
Here’s something a little different for the world of late night: an interviewer discussing his or her religious beliefs and swapping favorite bible verses with their guest.
Winfrey and Colbert then went on to talk about their favorite passages from The Bible. Watch the appearance below!
In addition, Oprah lauded Stephen for The Late Show’s gargantuan marketing campaign before its launch, which led her to recall her involvement in a similar (albeit far more modest) effort when she moved from one TV market to another in the late 1970s and arrived in town to discover her face on billboards with the slogan: “What is an Oprah?“. The program received wide-spread critical acclaim and earned two Peabody Awards and 29 Emmy Award nominations, including two Emmy wins for Outstanding Variety Series (2013, 2014) and four Emmy wins for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Program (2008, 2010, 2013, 2014).
Clinton’s husband and former President Bill Clinton appeared on Colbert’s show on October 6. “You know you can not be in the world without believing in something, even if you don’t call it a deity”.
“Mine’s from Matthew”, said Colbert. ‘Delight thyself.’ I love that word ‘delight, ‘ don’t you? “He will give you the desires of your heart”. What is Lord? Compassion, love, forgiveness, kindness.
“Oh, David was into delighting himself”, joked Colbert, firing off a nice little Biblical-masturbation joke, and the two erupted in laughter. Delight thyself in goodness, delight thyself in love, kindness, and compassion, and you will receive the desires of your heart.
Faith, on the other hand, she continued, “is very different, I think”. “Because there are a lot of people who don’t think they’re faithful people, but have beliefs”.
