Stephen Colbert Is Not Impressed With President Obama’s Game of Thrones Knowledge
That’s right, while President Obama claimed to be a big Game of Thrones fan in a recent interview with GQ, he also admitted to not being able to remember any of the characters’ names, not even the one of his favorite character.
Stephen Colbert schooled President Obama last night on “The Late Show“, and the subject was “Game of Thrones“.
Colbert goes into a Game of Thrones tyraid, saying the President can not keep track of the players in the geopolitical chess game of Westeros. “I strongly advise you start watching a little more closely, Mr. President, we’re counting on you to bring peace to the Seven Kingdoms”, Colbert continued. I shouldnt even need to say this, but if you havent actually watched the video yet, nows a great time for that.
When GQ asked what President Obama’s favorite character was, he responded: “My favorite character is probably…the dwarf, what’s his name?”
Colbert is basically saying that he knows nothing, well, except for the name John Snow because it is easy to remember.
In response, Colbert dropped a few Westerosi political knowledge on the president.
As Colbert explains, his name is “Tyrion Lannister of the House Lannister, youngest son of Lord Tywin Lannister”. And how does he have trouble pronouncing hard names when his own name compares to the rest of them?
Considering that there are characters named Hizdahr zo Loraq, Jaqen Highar, Illyrio Mopatis, and Xaro Xhoan Daxos-not to mention Daenerys Targaryen’s entire family-we don’t really blame Obama.
