Stephen Colbert mocks Starbucks holiday cup controversy on The Late Show
Dunkin’ Donuts has unveiled a special holiday cup for the season, featuring the word “Joy”, adorned with a few yuletide foliage.
As CBS2 Political Reporter Marcia Kramer reported, the mayor seemed to regard Trump’s comments on the so-called red cup controversy as more of a tempest in a teapot – or a coffee pot – than anything else.
The new cup design is a festive alternative to Starbucks’ conservative and controversial cup design.
According to Josh, Starbucks is going against Christianity by removing the Christmas logo from the cup, but according to Pete, Christianity is about going to the shop, buying something for people and wishing them a Merry Christmas.
“Starbucks REMOVED CHRISTMAS from their cups because they hate Jesus”, wrote Joshua Feuerstein in a viral Facebook post. He also encouraged users to give their name as “Merry Christmas” while ordering to “trick” Starbucks baristas into saying the greeting.
The GOP Presidential candidate is taking umbrage with the coffee-selling behemoth’s decision to scrap the traditional Christmas design of their Holiday season red cup. Instead, they explained on the website that this year they wanted to keep it simple – to let their customers tell their story on a blank slate on what Christmas was about.
Donald Trump is one of those people.
“Maybe we should boycott Starbucks”, Trump said, having reminded the crowd that the company is his tenant. “I can see why people might be all frothed up about this”.
Cups have never featured a religious design, and the company still sells Advent calendars and features a “Christmas Blend” of coffee.
“I don’t care what they put on their cups”, he added.
And a few noted that a boycott on Starbucks could result in shorter lines. I don’t care. By the way: That’s the end of that lease. “That I can tell you”. Jeffrey Fields, Starbucks vice president of design and content, says the company is embracing simplicity.
