Stephen Colbert to Feature Kendrick Lamar as First ‘Late Show’ Act
In one of his last “Colbert Report” shows in December, the host mocked Bush’s presidential ambitions. I felt I did everything I could with him and everything I could do with that show, other than [showcase] my honest interest in my guest, which is almost constant.
Stephen Colbert will come out swinging with A-level guests when The Late Show returns to CBS on September 8. “I’m looking forward to being sincerely interested in what they have to say without having to translate it through an idiot’s mouth”, Colbert said, according to Variety.
“Excuse me, I’m just getting a little emotional”. He also said that he thought freeing himself of the character he portrayed on his titular talk show would also prove to be important, as he thought he had done everything he could with the persona.
Colbert then joked that he prayed Donald Trump to be President to ensure he kept his jokes consistent.
Variety reports that acclaimed jazz musician and muli-instrumentalist, John Batiste was selected as Colbert’s musical director “because of his deep roots in New Orleans jazz and his charisma”. The set will be revamped with the desk moved across the stage, which was a suggestion David Letterman gave to Colbert. Colbert has brought most of his Comedy Central writing team with him.
