Stephen Curry Doesn’t Think He’s ‘Hurting The Game’ of Basketball
It is tempting to wonder what Curry would have had to sacrifice had he entered the league in, say, the 1990s. “Steph Curry’s the MVP”.
“It’s good to practice and get experience in that type of game as well where it’s low scoring, getting stops, knocking down free throws and executing in the half court”, interim coach Luke Walton said. “Work on the other aspects of the game”. That’s not why he’s the MVP.
Meeting the standard Jordan has set for basketball players would be an incredible feat, but it’s becoming increasingly hard to deny Curry his place in the conversation with all of the rare accolades he’s racking up.
Curry and the Warriors didn’t exactly appreciate Jackson’s comments.
“I have to talk to him”, Curry said. Sports, “I don’t know what he means by that”. If you can shoot, shoot.
“What I’m saying is that you have to have five defenders playing their man, particularly guards who are willing to guard, keep Curry and Thompson in front of them”.
He was also the subject of comments made by former Warriors coach Mark Jackson during the game that have drawn criticism.
“You’d have to quit shooting fast, never off the first pass. I wouldn’t even fast break on them”. “We wanted to play this game a certain way in this gym against this particular team”. You can always improve your shooting and your ballhandling; you cannot necessarily transform into a dominant physical force.
Although the first quarter remained within 9 points, forward Draymond Green and the Warriors barely held the upper hand in the first quarter.
“The thing I would say about Steph, what makes him who he is, is that nobody has to challenge him to get to the next level because he does it on his own”, coach Steve Kerr said.
In total, Curry finished with 19 points while also setting up seven baskets and claiming as many rebounds.
“Of course, they are not a one-man team, far from it, but it all begins with Curry”.
Chucking ridiculous, deep shots has always been fun, though. Cleveland was held to 31.6% for field goal attempts and only made 16.7% of their three point shots. “And don’t lose them no matter how many passes they make”.
While the focus is understandably on his shooting – seriously, watch him drill seven of every 10 shots from the top of the halfcourt logo during his pre-game warm-up – Curry has become a complete offensive force. Nash, in fact, said he wished he was growing up now, modeling his game after Curry.
But then James, with a chance to cut the gap to two, missed a pair of free throws with 1:33 left, after which Curry’s hoops slammed the door on the visitors.
