Stephen Curry Injury: Updates on Warriors Star’s Leg and Return
The Charlotte Hornets visited the Golden State Warriors on Monday, meaning that Steph Curry was in the same building as his father.
Klay Thompson poured in two key hoops to ignite a third-quarter pull-away Monday night, helping the Golden State Warriors outlast the Charlotte Hornets 111-101.
But the night belonged to Green, who had 13 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists to join Tom Gola in 1959-60 as the only Warriors players ever to get triple-doubles in three straight games.
“It’s just frustrating and annoying”, Curry said. “His consistency is just off the charts….” Everything Green does to impact a game couldn’t possibly translate to the stat sheet, and, sadly in this day and age, that is the means by which the majority of MVP voters come to their decisions.
Warriors interim coach Luke Walton had prepared for the game assuming Curry would sit it out after leaving Saturday’s game with a bruised left shin. But my teammates make it a lot easier to do it. Always moving, always cutting and knocking shots down. “It was a pleasant surprise”. The Warriors’ trainers examined Curry and cleared him to return. This game wasn’t ideal, by any means, but when Charlotte made a third-quarter run to get within 66-65 on Jeremy Lin’s 3-pointer with 8:56 to go, something clicked.
Thompson, though a great player in his own right, has played second fiddle to Curry in the entirety of his tenure in Golden State, sometimes third if you consider Green to be more valuable to Golden State’s small ball system than Curry. Golden State also rested center Festus Ezeli and guard Shaun Livingston. Klay Thompson scored a game-high 36 points. Curry continues to the lead the league in scoring with 29.3 points per game to go with 5.3 rebounds and 6.3 assists.
The Warriors rarely lose those battles.
“Their record speaks for itself”, said Hornets point guard Kemba Walker, who had 22 points. “So many weapons, so many options”.
The Lakers hung around the 12-point deficit range through much of the first half, but a huge 22-0 run in the third quarter from the Warriors turned a sorta-competitive-by-the-differential game into a complete blowout.
“I was joking with PG, just telling him how it was old times”, Bosh said. “He’s not risking further damage, other than the fact that if he keeps banging it, it may linger around longer”. You’re going to have (defensive) lapses. He had no issues at all and posted his 14th 30-point game of the season.
“Tonight it was just good to get back in that rhythm and actually look down the bench and see people filling the seats”, said center Andrew Bogut. Among players that have played more than 30 games this season, Curry sports a league-high net rating of 23.2, leading his team to a 33-2 record. “In the third quarter, I thought we started missing shots, and we just started thinking about misses and forgetting that you have to get back on defense and guard these guys”. We’re in a tough stretch.
