Stephen Curry out injured as Golden State Warriors are beaten
The Warriors (30-2) suffered just their second loss of the season – a blowout 114-91 road defeat at the hands of the Dallas Mavericks – on Wednesday night when reigning league MVP Stephen Curry sat out with a sore lower leg.
Four hours before the tip-off of Wednesday’s game between the Dallas Mavericks and the Golden State Warriors, about 30 fans gathered outside of the American Airlines Center just in case by luck there was a ticket available to see the league’s hottest team and the arguably one of the game’s best players.
Kerr could be back at the helm this weekend, taking the reins from interim coach Luke Walton who has presided over the Warriors’ sensational start to the season.
He is listed as questionable for their next game (Thursday morning in India) against the Dallas Mavericks and Golden State are set to take on Houston Rockets on (Friday morning). Yet Thompson didn’t exactly fire from anywhere on the court – the Warriors instead attempted to slow the game down (with varying degrees of success) and create openings for shooters within the flow of the halfcourt offense.
Anthony Davis had 14 points and 15 rebounds for New Orleans, while Ryan Anderson scored 17.
A lighthearted Walton said he hadn’t thought about whether Thursday’s game was his last in charge.
The Warriors opened up a 99-87 cushion with just under 10 minutes left but the Rockets weren’t done.
With Curry out and Thompson and Green struggling, the Warriors were led by a rather unexpected source of points – journeyman guard Ian Clark, who had a career-best 21 points off the bench. The Warriors have won six straight in the series during the regular season, including the 112-92 triumph on October 30. 2. The Warriors showed signs of life in the first quarter and played with an offensive flow that wasn’t present yesterday in Dallas.
Russell Westbrook scored 36 points and handed out 12 assists and the Oklahoma City Thunder escaped with a 110-106 victory over the tenacious Phoenix Suns. The shot put the Warriors back up by five, and it concluded a almost two-and-a-half-minute stretch without a made bucket for the Dubs. The worst loss during the title run last season was 15. Reserve Austin Rivers added 22 points and Chris Paul posted a double-double with 19 points and 11 assists. “We can’t give up 60 points in the first half like we did and expect to win”.
Andre Drummond had 23 points and 18 rebounds and Reggie Jackson added 19 points and nine assists, leading Detroit to a win at home. Guard Shaun Livingston, subbing for Curry, totaled seven assists to complement his 13 points.
