Stephen Hawking will host his first-ever Reddit AMA next week
If you have a passion for theoretical physics or just science in general, Stephen Hawking will be available next week to take your questions during his first-ever AMA.
It’s also so more people get a chance to ask Hawking questions; it’s often easy to miss out on a good AMA session, even if you’re only slightly late to an on-going thread. Hawkins will then answer submitted questions over the course of the following weeks.
Have a question for one of the smartest men on the planet?
As you likely know, Hawking suffers from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), typically referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease. He will be answering the majority of the questions that come from the community. The subject of AI has been one of key concern to the physicist. The letter’s accompanying documentation noted the benefits but also warned of the potential pitfalls of artificial intelligence if we allow it to expand beyond our control.
Some of the questions posed tackle problems such as lethal autonomous weapons, the modality in which AI’s can interpret human data and how it affects privacy, and the role of computer scientists in ethics and use laws during the development and use of AIs.
Stephen Hawking will answer every single question that he will receive from those attending the conference and he will actually be taking his time. The forum’s manager, Victoria Taylor, was dismissed without any public reason last month, with Reddit ownership allegedly asking the forum’s unpaid moderators to take over, which included appointing Q&A sessions with celebrities.
The Q&A session was made possible by Nokia and Wired as part of their #MakeTechHuman initiative, whose goal is to promote discussions about how technology can be used to improve humanity.
