Stephen Jackson to attempt comeback with the Warriors
Jackson last suited up for the Los Angeles Clippers back in the 2013-2014 season and has not appeared in the National Basketball Association in the two seasons following that.
The newly stacked Warriors had veteran talent clamoring to be a part of something special, which is why David West and Zaza Pachulia signed below-market deals to play for the team next season. He announced his retirement in June 2015, ending a 14-year career in which he averaged 15.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game, including two separate stints with the Warriors.
But Golden State Warriors had to exert some extra effort before getting Kevin Durant’s nod to join team, reports Tech Crunch. He was once considered a top rim protector in the league, finishing seventh in Defensive Player of the Year voting after the 2012-13 season. He averaged 6.2 points per game for the Spurs that year.
While that’s all mildly amusing in and of itself, a report on Sunday indicating that Stephen Jackson is attempting a comeback with the Warriors is all sorts of serious.
Jackson has been working as an analyst at ESPN, but according to Nichols will “attend camp” with the Warriors, which sounds a bit ambiguous.
It’s important to note that Jackson is not guaranteed a roster spot.
