Sterling, Iheanacho score as City beat Roma in pre-season game
Raheem Sterling says he is disappointed with how he left things at Liverpool following his move to Manchester City last week. I’m very happy for him and for our team to buy him.
But not before he was jeered by a section of the Aussie crowd when he made his very first touch – which embarrassingly saw him tread on the ball and fall flat on his backside.
Not long after Sterling’s opener, Miralem Pjanic showed why he is touted as one of the best midfield talents in Europe, putting an absolute thunderbolt past Willy Caballero into the top corner.
He tweeted: “Liverpool fans are wonderful but i hope@sterling31 will play at his best because he deserve it. He’s a good guy young and talented…” He is one of the hottest prospects in world football.
Iheanacho turned and then played a through-ball for Sterling, who side-footed a shot past Roma goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis. “He has the speed that we don’t have in the team so it will be a different way of playing”, he said. “Keep it up”, the Italian wrote.
The 20-year-old responded by opening the scoring with a well-taken goal after just three minutes and was a lively presence throughout his 45 minutes on the pitch.
Unsurprisingly, Balotelli received a torrent of criticism from Liverpool fans, who were unhappy with the striker’s post on the social media site.
“He’s a very young player so I think he’ll improve a lot in the future, playing with Yaya Toure, David Silva and Sergio Aguero”.
City won the game 5-4 on penalties after both teams were level 2-2 at full time, the BBC reported.
The 30-year-old midfielder added in a written statement: “The decision was very hard to make because you and FCB have and always will be an extremely important part of my life”. Despite how good Francesco Totti has been for the club, it is clear to see that he perhaps is not as effective around the goal as he used to be, and Roma could do with another striker to assist him. “YNWA, Liverpool is a family ALWAYS”.
Aleksandar Kolarov missed City’s second spot kick but Hart parried away a weak effort from Seydou Doumbia and also denied Seydou Keita to clinch the worldwide Champions Cup victory in front of 41,134.
