Sterling won’t train with Liverpool
The Press Association reports that Sterling missed Wednesday’s training session because of illness, but sources say the player just isn’t interested in being part of the Liverpool setup anymore and wants to distance himself.
Celebrity – Raheem Sterling reportedly only wants to leave Liverpool because of Brendan Rodgers, and if the Northern Irishman was sacked, Sterling would be willing to stay. On Tuesday, he refused to join their preseason tour of the Far East and Australia.
It is believed Manchester City are preparing a third transfer bid for Sterling although it won’t match Liverpool’s £50million valuation.
At that point, should Sterling fail to show for the club’s pre-season tour, it is inevitable he will be fined and likely sent to train on his own as Luis Suarez was when Arsenal came calling.
City have tried to take advantage of the situation but bids of up to £30million and £40million have been rejected by Liverpool, who are thought to value him at £50million.
Ahead of the club’s tour Jordan Henderson is also expected to be confirmed as the club’s new captain, having deputised on many occasions last season for the now-departed Steven Gerrard.
Sterling has told sources he is not happy with boss Brendan Rodgers and does not want to play under him anymore.
Off the field ex- Reds midfielder Gary McAllister is believed to have held talks with Rodgers regarding the vacant first-team coaching position.
Upon returning to preseason at the start of the week, Sterling reiterated his desire to leave Liverpool this summer after turning down the offer of a new £100,000-a-week deal in April. The ultra-talented youngster was recently rated as the most valuable player under the age of 21 in football, according to Soccerex.
“They all need to be men about the situation”, Stevie G said.
On Jordan Henderson’s confirmation as skipper, Gerrard said: “Raheem and Jordan are at different ends of the scale“.
