Steve Austin on The Cover of WWE 2K16
Are you happy with this particular wrestling superstar? That is a little vague, as there have been many games in WWE history.
Below, you’ll find the game’s newly-revealed cover art, which will be displayed in stores and online when WWE 2k16 releases on October 27th. The iconic wrestler has held more than 21 championships, is a member of the WWE Hall of Fame, is the host of multiple television shows and has starred in numerous films over the years.
It was just a month ago that Steve Austin cut a promo on Brock Lesnar during his podcast . And that’s the bottom line, because Stone Cold said so! “There’s no reason to go back in the ring and prove anything”.
Now that’s a blast from the past, at least for me anyway.
The foulmouthed antihero was in the center of the “Attitude Era” in the mid 1990s and had epic matches with The Rock, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker. The news was announced this morning in a press release by 2K games. For all the different matchups, with 120 playable characters, that’s nearly insane. Austin listed dream matches against Hulk Hogan, John Cena, CM Punk and Andre the Giant and would have loved to face Sting when both were main eventers. That’s exactly what it seems they did with Stone Cold as evident by the announcement video below.
The game will include options for players to put together their own take on a wrestler, with unique characteristics, and then guide him through his career.
In an interview with WWE.com, Austin said he was humbled by the news.
WWE 2K16 is being developed by Yuke’s and Visuals Concepts, and is coming to Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 on October 29.
This isn’t the first time that 2K has tapped a retired great for one of their sports game’s covers.
