Steve Bruce: Manchester United could recall Nick Powell from Hull City loan
Manchester United midfielder Nick Powell admitted he did not see his parent club’s latest setback at Midtjylland as he prepares to make his Hull City debut at Arsenal.
The 21-year-old has barely been involved in the United squad this season, but at least he seems to be finding ways to fill his time whilst on loan at Hull City.
“I remember watching him play for Wigan in the Championship when he was 18 or 19 and he did very well”, Bruce said.
Hull’s Nick Powell is looking to prove he is far from the “lost cause” some painted him out to be at Manchester United.
“Nick will definitely play”, said Bruce.
Bruce was also asked if there was any chance of Powell finding himself brought back to Old Trafford if he performs well for Hull, given the current injury crisis at United which saw a whopping 14 players unavailable on Thursday night.
‘It’s not my decision, but anything can happen in football, ‘ Powell said.
“It was a big, big slap in the face when some things went wrong, but, like I said, that’s all about football”.
“I had never been injured before joining United and that step up – from League Two to the Premier League – was not monitored properly. These are good young players who can thrive with what we can give them here”. No offence to the team they played – I can’t pronounce their name and I do not know who they are.
‘I am massively determined to impress, ‘ he said, having recently overcome a hamstring complaint.
“I just think United are going through such a bad time that any little bad thing becomes a massive thing”. For me it was a shock for Sir Alex Ferguson to retire. “The only way to prove that is to play my football and to show people I am not injury prone or a nuisance”.
“But if they did call me back, I guess it would be no bad thing”.
