Steve Carell to replace Bruce Willis in Woody Allen’s star-studded film
The scoop that actor Steve Carell will be reuniting with Woody Allen for the first time in over ten years to replace Willis in said role. And, though the controversy regarding his abrupt departure continues to spur, the writer/director hasn’t had any trouble finding a replacement.
Despite persistent rumor that Willis was sacked, the party line remains that he left the movie when he determined his schedule for the Broadway version of Misery didn’t mesh with the requirements for Woody Allen’s shoot. This has set off an avalanche of accusations dredged up from the media mills about how hard Willis is to work with in past productions. So it’s possible the actor and the role just didn’t fit with one another.
The as-yet-untitled film stars Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg-in their third onscreen pairing following Adventureland and the recent American Ultra-along with Corey Stoll, Parker Posey, and Blake Lively.
Woody Allen’s next movie, Irrational Man, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone, is set for release on July 24 from Sony Pictures Classics. In fact, it’ll be exciting to see them working together again, particularly considering the comedic and dramatic versatility Carell’s been perfecting of late.
