Steve Harvey announces wrong victor of Miss Universe 2015
Has Miss Colombia won, it would have been the second consecutive year for a Miss Colombia to nab the Miss Universe title, after last year’s crowned victor, Paulina Vega.
The crown was removed from Miss Columbia’s head and placed on the head of the victor Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines.
Sarah-Lorraine Riek says that she is upset of the results of Miss Universe 2015.
Meanwhile, Colombia’s President Juan Manuel Santos had to reverse a celebratory tweet after discovering that Miss Colombia had been mistakenly named the victor. She never meant to offend Miss Philippines in any way.
While Pia was in pure bliss upon knowing that she is the next Miss Universe, the runner-up was obviously devastated.
Our source said there is “no way” the mistake was done for publicity, as some news outlets have questioned, but could be chalked up to Harvey simply being under-rehearsed.
The Las Vegas Strip was soon jammed with ambulances and fire trucks, and authorities said at least 30 people were taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries, with one person dead.
When Harvey returned to the stage, Wurtzbach appeared at a loss of what to do.
We have another twist in the 2015 Miss Universe pageant saga. “I’m sorry to say that”.
During the pageant, Harvey apologized for his mistake and showed the card containing the results which showed Philippines as the victor. He held up the card for the camera. Again it was an honest mistake. “Still, it’s a great night. I feel bad”, he tweeted on Sunday night. “It didn’t deserve to happen that way”, adding that he just kept reading the card and it said, ‘First runner-up, ‘ and I went ‘oh my goodness”.
“I will take responsibility for this, it was my mistake”, he told the crowd.
The epic blunder caught the attention of the world, making #MissUniverse2015 a worldwide trending topic on Twitter.
Pia is the 3rd Miss Philippines to win the Miss Universe pageant.
It’s no secret the Miss Universe franchise has faced drama this year, when GOP presidential contender Donald Trump sold the pageant to WME/IMG.
“Things happen”, he said.
Harvey also found himself the butt of several internet jokes. One prominent post showed his smiling face under the headline: “Happy Friday!” followed by “Wait, sorry, it’s Monday”.
The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported that 1969 Miss Universe victor Gloria Diaz called for Harvey to be fined US$100,000 for the error. We witnessed that tonight when the wrong victor was initially announced.
