Steve Harvey mocked, comforted after crowning wrong Miss Universe
Miss Universe pageant has now become rather boring and the coveted event has lost its charm in the past few years but this year the pageant was on every network, thanks to a major goof-up by the show’s host, Steve Harvey.
Miss Philippines did end up receiving the diamond and blue topaz crown, but Miss Germany said she was surprise because none of the contestants voted for her. “We congratulate Miss Universe Philippines as Miss Universe 2015”.
From President Juan Manuel Santos to Miss Colombia’s relatives in the Caribbean port city of Barranquilla, millions of Colombians who tuned in for Sunday’s pageant screamed joyously when it was announced that Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo had won this year’s crown.
“I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake”, he wrote.
And for her part, Miss Colombia composed herself to give a very classy concession speech.
Lorraine Riek – Miss Germany – has weighed in on the fiasco, which was sparked after host Steve Harvey mistakenly announced that the tiara was going to Miss Colombia.
In a statement to the Inquirer, Miss Philippines said, “I felt calm when I was called first runner-up because I felt it was fate”.
CHLOË Grace Moretz had a LOT to say during Miss Universe – and not all of it was about that awkward ending. Others want to know why the judges did not stand up to correct the mistake immediately.
A contrite Harvey fixed his mistake quickly. Don’t hold it against the ladies. We feel so badly but it’s still a great night.
However, Trump no longer owns the Miss Universe Organization.
“Everything happens for a reason”, she said.
Celebrations quickly turned to anger in Colombia, where the hashtag “Respect the Crown” was the country’s top trending topic on Twitter.
The sudden reversal even caught by the president by surprise, forcing him to reverse his initial celebratory tweet. She said she has no problem with it.
Miss Columbia got support from fellow Colombian and Modern Family actress Sofia Vergara. “This would never have happened!”, he tweeted.
People on the internet weren’t too happy about Miss Germany’s comments.
He softened his tone in an interview on NBC’s Today Show, calling Harvey a “great guy” who handled it well.
Harvey, the comedian, found himself the butt of Internet jokes Monday.
