Steve Harvey’s Miss Universe blunder causes PR nightmare for comedian
After Steve Harvey’s pageant screw up, Gutierrez posted an Instagram with the caption, “FOREVER YOUR MISS UNIVERSE!!“.
The gossip blogger, who served as one of several judges on Sunday’s pageant broadcast, slammed mistakenly crowned runner-up Miss Colombia as a “straight-up diva b–” unworthy of the coveted crown during the latest episode of “The Perez Hilton Podcast”.
“All of us voted for Philippines to win, so we were in shock and then when we found out that there was a mistake, I was like, ‘This is brilliant”. “It was a major turn-off”.
Miss Universe host Steve Harvey (r.) “just didn’t do his job well, period”, said judge Perez Hilton (l.). “Although, as a judge, and I’m looking at everything that happened, I see her posting on Instagram that she’s the true victor”.
“I actually think that Miss Philippines, whom we all voted for, deserves to win, one, but losing is the best thing that ever happened to Colombia”.
She tried to talk to her after the show, but the women were all around her trying to comfort her as she cried, so no one was congratulating or paying attention to the real victor at all. The whole event was a shocking and embarrassing situation for Miss Colombia, and it also resulted in the real victor, Miss Philippines getting somewhat ignored during the ruckus.
Gutierrez also told RCN that she had received personal apologies from both the presenter and the Miss Universe organisation.
Judges Emmitt Smith, Olivia Culpo, Niecy Nash and Perez Hilton attend the 2015 Miss Universe Pageant at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on December 20, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
After realising his massive blunder the host was forced to ask for the crown back and instead handed over the win to Miss Philippines, 26-year-old actress and model Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.
Ariadna Gutiérrez, Colombia’s Miss Universe contestant, who made headlines after being falsely named victor of the pageant due to a presenter mix up, spoke to the media on Monday about the ordeal.
“My first thought was, wow, this is rigged”, Hilton said.
Host Steve Harvey accidentally announced to millions around the world that the crown belonged to the wrong contestant, even letting Ariadna celebrate with her family and parade around the stage.
“There is a prompter, but the moment where he crowns the victor isn’t on the prompter because that moment, they don’t want the other girls to know, so it was just on his card and he read it incorrectly”, he said.
